The Havana Biennale, recognized as one of the most famous events in Latin America, the Caribbean and the world, has made visible the thought and contemporary artistic evolution of Cuba, the Southern Hemisphere and other parts of the world. This year, from April 12 to May 12, 2019, it will celebrate its 13th edition. Under the title "Building the possible", it proposes to encourage interaction between creators, curators, experts and institutions, in a plurality of artistic processes that offers variants of sustainability, without straying from the proposal what any artistic work represents.

This edition has more than 300 guests with individual and collective projects, artists from 52 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Central America and the Caribbean, South America, North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The list of curators includes nine National Plastic Arts Awards – the highest distinction in the field of visual arts in Cuba – such as Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, René Francisco Rodriguez, José Manuel Fors, José Sober Villaon, Pedro de Ora, Pedro Pablo Oliva, Eduardo Ponjuon and José A. Toirac. Thirty-five years after its creation and in its thirteenth edition, the Havana Biennale continues to focus on the promotion of young artists and their new forms of conceptualization and artistic production. Important representatives of the intellectual sphere such as Dr Ticio Escobar of Paraguay and Dr Boaventura de Souza Santos of Portugal, Senegalese critic Babacar Mbow and Colombian writer Carlos Jauregui have also confirmed their presence.

The Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Centre, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Grand Theatre of Havana "Alicia Alonso", the University of the Arts (ISA), the Malecon Havane Development of Visual Arts and other prestigious institutions, are all places that have a high aesthetic and conceptual value. There is no shortage of reasons for those who love contemporary art to participate in the enriching dynamics of this event. This will allow for a participatory-reflexive interaction between emerging groups and practices, national and international institutions and even between the different patterns of art circulation, located in more than 30 spaces extend, for the first time, beyond the limits of the capital and will take place in the provinces of Matanzas, Pinar del Rio, Cienfuegos and Camagaey.

As with each edition, collateral exhibitions are added to the exhibition circuit, further diversifying the artistic panorama, through collective, personal, bipersonal proposals, interventions in public spaces and artists' studios. Institutions such as the National Academy of Fine Arts in San Alejandro, Casa de las Américas, the Experimental Graphic and Screenworkshop René Portocarrero, to name a few, will be added to a well-stocked offer.
